Gunnar's Wheels Foundation was created as a way to 'pay it forward'. When Jason's dog Gunnar was hit by a car in 2014, he spent everything he had getting him well. Once it was established that Gunnar would not likely walk without support, Jason began searching for options, only to find that a wheelchair for Gunnar was more than he could spend at the time. For Gunnar's health and happiness, getting a cart to get him up and mobile was what was best...but Jason couldn't afford it right after the vet bills. Friends and family stepped up to help get Gunnar his chair. Jason realized that many other people may be faced with the same situation and could use help. In the meantime, inspired by Jason's commitment to his pet, Jason's sister, Jaimee, a former Vet Tech, was busily sharing his story to her friends and rescue sites. Proud of her brother's commitment to the LIFE of his pet. A rescue called out for help to get a rescue dog a chair and Jason found a used one and paid to ship it to to TX. So Gunnar's Wheels Foundation was born in August 2016. Since then, Jason, his wife Stephanie, and sister Jaimee have built up relationships with manufacturers to buy carts and parts at a discount. Jason speaks with EVERY pet owner to help them measure and get the right fit. Jaimee combs Craig's list all over the country to find used carts, requests support and donations from public and private parties as well as corporations. Stephanie assists in managing logistics, cart returns and the avalanche of paperwork and applications that come with starting and running a non-profit. A stroke of sheer luck brought Gunnar's Wheels Foundation's GoFundme page into national news when Jason and Gunnar were selected as GoFundMe Heros for the month of April. With this notoriety came more requests for help and some offers of cart donations. As of the first anniversary of Gunnar's Wheels Foundation, Jason, Gunnar and the team had sent out 355 carts. These are pets who may have been euthanized had it not been for the gift of mobility. Your continued support will allow us to help pets well into the future.
