From Duke Caboom's momma: We knew we have always wanted a dog; the timing was just never right. One of us is a nurse and the other a teacher/coach, so we just never had time to give a dog the attention they deserve. The only good thing to come out of the pandemic was when the schools went all virtual one of us was going to be home all the time while unfortunately the other one would be working all the time. It was the perfect time for a dog. After looking at pictures on different rescues Facebook pages, we saw Duke Caboom, put an application in, went through an interview process and a virtual tour of our home, and we were approved! The stars aligned and we adopted Duke Caboom when he was just 9 weeks old. Duke and his siblings were found in Louisiana and were going to be euthanized before being rescued. Duke and the other pups were transported from Louisiana to NJ and we adopted Duke through Southern Paws Rescue in NJ. We did not know he was going to be euthanized until after we adopted him and that just made us love him even more. Duke did not come with his name. He was in the “wine litter” so he had a wine name. We are not wine people, we are Disney people so after careful consideration Duke was named after the daredevil Toy Story 4 character, Duke Caboom, voiced by Keanu Reeves. We didn’t know it when we named him, but Duke is definitely a little daredevil. Nothing scares him! Duke Caboom is 1 ½ years old now (2021) and we just love him so much and wouldn’t know what to do without him. He plays hard and naps harder. He is super playful, curious, smart, goofy, and loves everyone and everything. He also loves car rides, treats, playing with his toys, playing with his friends at daycare, and belly rubs. He just loves love. Duke Caboom was trained by Melissa from Warrior Paws dogs training and he did really well! He graduated from both programs she offers. Duke Caboom has changed our lives for the better and we are so lucky to be his Mommy and Daddy and to have him in our lives. He is our best friend and the absolute best dog. We always say how lucky we are to have him because we really are.
