  • Here’s Paulie’s Story right from his momma:

Paulie was our first puppy ever and his adoption was relatively unplanned. Here’s how he ended up being our baby: A friend-of-a-friend had vacationed at the Jersey Shore and there they found a friendly, hungry, and homeless female pitbull, which they rescued and brought home with them. They immediately brought her to their vet who informed them she had recently given birth. Turns out though, he was wrong as she was still pregnant with 6 pups! Their good-deed had turned into a problem and they now had to find homes for 6 pittie pups. We agreed to take 1 and we welcomed Paulie when he was just 8 weeks old. He was a handful and we were definitely in over our heads with him.

Paulie was a typical high-energy pup but with some nervous tendencies and bad habits. Luckily, I have a really good friend who is an expert dog trainer with her own dog training company: Hidden Pawtential. I was up for the challenge and learned the basics of clicker training right along with Paulie, (who is crazy smart!). Reaching out to Hidden Pawtential was the best thing we did for our young pup. Even though we were in a different country, (they are based in Canada), Hidden Pawtential took the time to talk us through clicker training and laid down the foundation of the basics that really set Paulie up for success in his future obedience and trick classes.

When we suffered a house fire and had to live in a hotel for a little while, and then a too-small rental house with no yard for months, it was his basic clicker training and tricks that calmed him and helped us through the stressful time.

We are back in our home now and Paulie is a sweet, funny, and (huge; 93 pounds) happy guy! He still loves learning new tricks and he loves being dapper in his bow-ties from Bowtie Atticus! We love him to pieces!
